Batik is a technique of manual wax-resist dyeing applied to cloth. The resultant fabric usually has a tighter weave than printed fabric as it is washed several times to remove the dye. It also has no right or wrong side as the dye soaks through the fabric. This makes it an excellent choice for raw edge applique techniques as the edges are the same colour as the fabric.
